Horizon Convention Center
401 S. High St. Muncie, IN
Detective Jami Brown

While the holidays are, for many, a joyful time – a time for celebration, family gatherings, spreading peace and love – there is a sobering truth that incidents of domestic violence will increase during this holiday season. Contributing factors include the struggling economy, the jobless rate, the rising cost of necessities, and the stress of the gift giving. According to experts, during the holidays, when many people are home from work and spending unusually long periods of time with an abusive partner, there can be a greater sense of anxiety and stress, thus resulting in a violent situation.

Jami Brown is a detective and she has been with the Muncie Police Department for nearly 20 years. She is currently assigned to the Domestic Violence Unit at City Hall. Jami has investigated over 3000 cases of  domestic violence and rape for the City of Muncie since she was transferred to the Criminal Investigations Unit in 1998. Jami will speak about local Domestic Violence issues and how you can help victims of household violence in our community and in your workplace.

abwAs with every holiday season, WIBU wants to give back and support the mission of a local not-for-profit. This year, we ask you to join us in supporting A Better Way.

A Better Way provides shelter and services for victims of domestic violence, transitional housing, advocacy for victims of sexual assault, a 24-hour crisis line for persons in any type of crisis, AOK afterschool programs, a suicide hotline, bullying, teen dating violence and domestic violence prevention programs, and a check-in call service for elderly or disabled homebound persons.

Their Mission: To bring peace to homes, strength to individuals and families, and positive impact to community through prevention and crisis intervention.
